Why Write?

Why do I write anyway?  What on earth possesses me to spend long hours tapping away at my keyboard avoiding carpel tunnel and writer's block?  Why do I pour my soul into my characters and cry when I ruin their lives?

1. Writing is therapeutic.

I can write about the stresses in my life through a story.

2. I can unleash my creativity.

I'm a creative person.  No, I don't have the budget to film an epic movie, so I write instead.

3. There's something magical about words.

You can create anything using different combinations of the same 26 letters.  Think about that.

4. I can take myself on journeys authors haven't thought of yet.

How many times have you thought of an idea and thought, "I wish authors would write about this instead of (insert topic here)."?  YOU can be the one to tell the story!  Write the story you want to read!

5. Eventually, I can share these stories and emotions with the rest of the world.

I can also see my hard work in paperback form.

6. I can share the gospel through a story.

How many non-Christians would pick up a book called "The Gospel 101"?  Probably none, but you never know.  Now, how many people would pick up a fiction book that doesn't hint at Christianity?  Many, many more.  Through fiction, you can disguise the Gospel and let God do the rest.  You can be the one to plant that seed.

7. It's something I love to do.

Why do you write?  I would love to hear your thoughts!

  1. Wonderful post!

"You can create anything using different combinations of the same 26 letters. Think about that." OMG THAT BRINGS TEARS TO MY EYES. :') Literal tears... it's just so amazing to think about.

    1. It definitely helps me get through the first draft. I hate knowing that it's terrible, but if I give myself permission to be bad because I'm writing for me, it makes it less painful.

You are so right! It is so hard to tell people how much of a joy writing can be!

I'm so glad I could be an encouragement to you today, Faith!

  4. Lovely post Alea. =) I try to remind myself of this often. The #1 reason I write is to share Jesus' love...but it is also the way I can express myself and just relax and have fun. =) I am so very thankful that God gave me a love for writing...I can't think of another gift that I would prefer to be blessed with.

And, by the way, the new blog design is just perfect!!! I LOVE it!!

  5. Lovely points. :)
I write because these stories are in my head and I want to read them, but even more and through that I can tell others about Jesus, and share these stories in my head with them as well. ;)
I like your new header, too. :D

  6. This was wonderful, Alea! I loved reading it - I might have to do a post of my own kind of like it (with reference to you, of course).

Number three is such a good point, and it's totally true! There's something magic about the combination of paper, ink, and a writer's mind. Somehow worlds and people get created.

    3. Also, I was wondering if you would be interested in designing a cover for the novella that I'm currently having beta read, 'Killing Snow'? I won't feel any offense if you'd rather not (I know how much work covers take!), but I thought I'd ask :).

  7. Ahhh I love writing for quite a few of these reasons too! Particularly #2 and #4! I actually like the control of writing a lot!?? YUP. I'LL ADMIT IT. 😂 But when reading I always panic over what'll happen...but with writing? I get to say and it's SO AMAZING. Plus just finding out what one's imagination can do is the besssst. I love writing so so much! Just telling stories and getting my thoughts across to the world is so worth all the hours typing away. :')

Thanks for stopping by @ Paper Fury!
